Things to do in your garden this month
Spring is just around the corner, and early bulbs are just starting to break through the soil. Now is the time to prepare for the season ahead as the garden starts to wake up.
Prune back evergreen hedges and renovate deciduous ones. Clip climbers such as wisteria and clematis and start to prepare early seed beds under cover.
Blossoms on fruit trees will need protecting against harsh frosts. And dead grass should be removed from your ornamentals.
If you have not already done so, now is the time to trim back the deadwood on winter shrubs. You might have spotted a few weeds popping up too, just hoe them into the soil for added nutrients.
You can start chitting early potatoes, and if you want to move trees and shrubs do it now provided the soil is not frozen or water-logged.
And lastly, don't forget the birds: there is not a lot of food around so leave them something tasty, but lease don't feed them bread!
